A viral clip can be completely real and still tell the wrong story
Authenticity answers whether footage is genuine. Context answers whether the caption, date, location, and conclusion are accurate.
Video verification has two separate jobs. The first is checking whether the footage has been altered, generated, or stitched together. The second is checking whether a genuine clip is being described accurately.
Old footage frequently returns during a new event. A real crowd reaction can be attached to the wrong speech. A short edit can remove the question that explains an answer. Reposted videos can also lose the original upload date and location.
